TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE

Or…Kennedy Center Dishonor

I’ve got good news and I have bad news.

First, the good. The production company Done and Dusted, along with producers Jack Sussman and Liz Kelly, the people affiliated with the Honors last year, have pulled out of producing this year’s honors.

Who knew there were people in Hollywood who still had a spine?

It certainly remains to be seen whether anyone at the Director’s Guild will behave likewise, beyond the empty and shallow attempt at reclaiming some kind of high ground after the DGA’s betrayal of every conceivable norm and founding principle recently noted here in numerous posts.

It will take a whole lot more for the DGA to save face after its shockingly consistent shortcoming and disregard for what its members feel, want and what is in their best interest.

The reason we are in this mess, with Jimmy Kimmel as only the most recent collateral damage, has a lot to do with how short sighted and weak the DGA is, and continues to be. IATSE endorsed the right candidate last fall with the courage and clarity they have proven to have before, and the…

DGA DID NOTHING.

I don’t know how the Board can live with this kind of betrayal, but needless to say, I hope the majority of them have been replaced, as they should have been.

Shame on the DGA.

It is becoming quite clear, and it is something I intend to pursue, that the Olympics should boycott the Los Angeles games in 2028. They should be moved back, and held in Paris and London in solidarity with the Olympic movement and people across the globe who have looked to the Games for the utmost in purity, inspiration, and for what America is now destroying, the height of morality and the essence of human achievement, in sport and in life.

The world cannot turn its back on America’s ruin by the most evil progenitor to authoritarianism, and birth this clown king and catastrophe.

Not on our watch. We are better than this, or used to be.

Bearing witness again,

DS.
