NEW HORIZON

Dear colleagues,

I am posting this to announce a change in direction for this site and a new chapter ahead for me.

Since 2017 I have attempted to use this forum to advance communication in the most democratic way I could find.

My efforts have been to encourage participation and foster a dialogue that would inform, empower and connect Union members across coasts in an interactive and modern way.

As a DGA member for 40 years, and as a council member in the last 15 years, I am certain that I strongly pursued what I thought was right.

I don’t think the DGA has always had the best interest of all of its members at heart.

Whether it is wage disparity, lack of fair residual payment, or the anemic response to inflation, I often thought the DGA has fallen short.

Now, with Artificial Intelligence the stakes are even higher. We are suffering not only the risk of losing jobs because of A.I. but also an existential threat to our humanity as well. This is an exceedingly nuanced and volatile time, and one needing all hands on deck.

Somehow someone, whether my parents, teachers, friends, or even maybe a colleague or two have planted a seed that continues to grow in me.

It seems to suggest that even at 59 years old I still have dreams and an unrelenting desire to leave this world a better place than we found it, if possible.

This is why I am now running for U.S. Congress in the 32nd District.

It’s a long shot and an audacious and daunting prospect but one that inspires me. I love a challenge, and I’m certain this is one I will not regret taking.

I have always tried to act faithfully, and responsibly to our colleagues at the Guild and assume it would be no different to the way I respond to the people I represent in the CA 32nd District.

Solemnly,

Doug Smith.

PLEASE visit dougsmithforcongress if you’re interested in knowing more about what I hope we can achieve, and continue to use MorePerfect in the same way, as an interactive open forum for change.

We got this…

  2. Happy New Year Doug! Wow. I did not see that coming. I admire your desire to make this world a better place and I share those beliefs. Heading to read information at your candidate site and let me know how I can support from afar.
